*
*

*

*

*
First up, we have Ryan, who will be preparing Tom Yum Soup! Sawadee Krup! Makes me feel like going to Thailand!!!

On the left, Ryan is removing the “excess oil” on the surface of the soup to make it less oily. That is very kind of him for the benefits of the health of all of us:) Kop Khun Krup!
*

Next up is me! I am a big fan of crabs and I have been eating crabs for the past 25 years but has never tried cooking a crab dish. The 3 common ones are: Chilli Crab, Black Pepper crab and Buttered Crab. Recently, I have tried a new type of crab dish: Salted Egg Yolk Crab. It was awesome! So I have decided to challenge myself by trying to cook it myself with all my buddies helping out to taste I will not hesitate to do so hehe.
*
*

*
The ingredients of Salted-Egg Crab: Salted-Egg Yolks, Crab, Curry Leaves, seasoning.
*
*

*
The trick i steal from recipe is to keep stir frying the crab so that most parts of the crab will be coated with the salted-egg yolk sauce.
*
*

*

*
Taking a breather from the cooking. Posing for the cam:)

Where great cooks meet… for the 1st time! A group picture before enjoying our fruits of labour.
*
*
*

Dessert time! Some say dessert is the most important dish of a good meal as it is the last dish that creates a lasting and sweet impression of the entire meal.

Herbert had the honour of wrapping things up with his dessert. Waffle strawberry ice cream!
*

*
*

Will you buy this dessert at $2.90? Hmm…?
*

Introducing: Bell and Ross!
*

*
*

Super cute can!
*
*
*

*

*
Supper Time! The pasta we had earlier on was “repackaged”(with some parsley flakes) and served as our supper. It was still very tasty. The works of a great chef and… the joint efforts of the microwave and some parmesan leaves hahaha.
*

Ok. Fair enough.

Shin Kushiya – Japanese Charcoal Grill

This is the place where we went to have dinner. They have quite a few branches and we went to the one at VivoCity. The restaurant is not too heavily packed with furnitures. Rather spacious at the entrance and also in between tables. Overall the ambience was not too bad, suitable for small group gatherings.

*

*

kushiyaki

 Kushiyaki Mori (Large) - SGD$49.80

A mixture of grilled meat and seafood. Fresh and served hot. The trick is to eat it shortly after they are being served. Its ok for the tongue to be scalded a bit. Its worth it. Trust me:)

*

*

sashimi

Sashimi Moriawase (Large) – SGD$60.80

Second plate of sashimi for half price! This is the large one as the 50% discount was given to the cheaper plate. The taste of the sashimi salmon was simply… shiok! I could only taste the freshness of the sashimi without any fishy stench at all! There was a tinge of sweetness when eaten at its most original form without soy sauce or wasibi.

*

paulaner

Paulaner Brauhaus - A German microbrewery/restaurant/drinking pub with live band located beside Millenia Walk.

There wasn’t a live band on the day when we went there (Sunday) but there was still music of acceptable volume where we could still talk and had fun. If you wanna catch the live band (which is good!) remember to check out first.

*

Paulaner Brauhaus -

The 2 types of beers  that we always order are: Munich Lager and Munich Dark. The one with a lighter and brighter tone of yellow is the Lager and the dark brownish tone is the Dark. I always take the Lager as it taste lighter and the aftertaste is less strong as compared to the Dark which is rather strong in its aftertaste. The alcohol content of Lager is only 0.2% less than the Dark.

There are 3 sizes to these beers. The one on the left is 0.5 litres and the one on the right is 0.3 litres. There is another one which is the 1 litre which is seldom being ordered for its size.

*

With beer and music as the basis, its no wonder that the guessing game will be such a natural game to play:) Its a test of the quickness of the mind + concentration and a certain level of the element of luck. Well, its just a game of probability.

*

Saving the best for the last. The climax of that day was the introduction of the birthday cake. It was just a slice as everybody’s stomachs were still full of sashimis and beer. And it feels much “closer” when we share the cake when each person takes just a spoonful of the cake:)

The spicyness comes only a little while after you put the chicken in the mouth. It smells and taste a little sour, probably because of the marination. Level 5 will be my next try =)

*

*

1650

Dory Fish fillet. SGD$16.50.

Very tasty and most importantly, its very fresh! Taste a bit salty. It is better to eat with the coleslaw to help mask the salty taste.

*

*

2450

Lamb Chop. SGD$24.50.

The lamb chop is cooked in a way that the strong smell of mutton is not present. It tasted a little dry as there were no sauces served with the meat. Would prefer it to be served with mushroom sauce/black pepper sauce etc.

*

*

*

4850

Prime rib steak. SGD$48.50.

This is the best out of all the mentioned here. The medium well beef steak is very juicy and tender. This is the dish that is so tasty that will make you stare into blank while chewing on the meat! Slightly pricey but definitely worth it! The original taste without the sauce is just as good as when the meat is dipped with the black pepper sauce on a separate saucer.

*

Prime Rib

It is very relaxing having a meal here or just having a chat with friends as. The place is open-air, and it is locatedbeside a runway which is “far away” from the city, which reduces the crowded and “city feeling”.

*

Went to a restaurant located at Tanglin Shopping Center, called Nirai Kanai that serves Okinawan food with JTB colleagues for our company dinner.

Oh yes, the place (private room) we were in was rather humid. I was perspiring even though there were no spicy food. PS: Try not to over-dress (long sleeve shirt etc.) when visiting this place. Do not expect comfortable air condition.

Back to the the dinner itself. The cost was SGD$35.00 (excluding drinks) per pax. It includes the following 11 Okinawan dishes:

*

bitter-gourd1

Fried bitter-gourd. This reminds me of home-cooked fried bitter-gourd with egg, as it tastes somehow similar except that beancurd is  used here.

*

*

tofu

Cold dish: Tofu and mini raw fish. This is supposed to be an appetizer, however, it did not gave me the “appetizing” effect, at least to me. The reason being: it had quite a strong fishy smell (although it should be as fish is on the tofu) and a rather pungent smell. A colleague of mine were at first not very willing to eat it. We therefore had a challenge to gobble down this appetizer. To my amazement she did it without much change of expression on her face! To fulfill that challenge, I did the same too thinking to myself luckily it was a challenge to gobble it and not chew and munch on it. This was quite a disaster for me.

*

*sashimi-salad1

Raw sashimi salad. Raw sashimi tuna and salmon were the important players in this dish. Others include raw scallops and a small portion of vegetables. I love sashimis, but  i thought the taste of the originality of the sashimi was affected by the other ingredients when mixed together.

*

me-and-xuan

Uncle Dennes and the growing up Tang Yin Xuan Seraphine. I got to take my hats off the kids nowadays. Somtimes I wondered if it is the milk that they drink which made them become so smart at a such a young age. My not-yet-three-years-old niece is able to talk (not chat of course!) to another person on the phone (yes on the phone!), answering yes/no questions and simple when, where, which, who, what, why questions AND follows instrcutions such as passing messages! Hats off!
